Practical Tips

  • Apply early. Processing times can be unpredictable. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your planned departure.
  • Income proof format matters. Some embassies prefer official tax documents; others accept bank statements. Call ahead to confirm.
  • Insurance options. SafetyWing, World Nomads, and Allianz all offer plans that meet the requirements. Get a policy that specifically covers Japan.
  • No extension possible. The DN visa cannot be extended. After 6 months, you must leave Japan. You can reapply from outside Japan for a new stay.
  • Family members can accompany you on a dependent visa. They need their own health insurance.
