Practical Tips

Running gear and shoes
  • Bring your own shoes: Large shoe sizes (above US 10) are hard to find in Japan. Pack your running shoes.
  • Post-run baths: Many sento (public baths) are open early morning and evening. A great recovery option for ~$5.
  • Summer heat: June to September is hot and humid. Run early morning (before 7am) or after sunset. Hydrate heavily.
  • Coin lockers: Major parks and stations have coin lockers ($1–3) where you can stash your bag while running.
  • Running groups: Several free running groups meet weekly in Tokyo. Check Meetup.com or local running shops for schedules.
